07.
O come e gran martire
a celar suo desire
quando con pura fede
s’ ama chi non se ‘ l crede!
O mio soave ardore,
o dolce mio desire,
s’ ognun ama il suo core
e voi siete il cor mio,
allor fia che non v’ ami,
che viver piu non brami.
08.
Sento che nel partire
il cor giunge al morire,
ond’ io misero ognora, ogni momento
grido: morire mi sento!
Non sperando di fare a voi ritorno.
E cosi dico mille volte al giorno:
partir io non vorrei
se col parir accresco i dolori miei.
Che da me la difenda.
Giusto e ben ch’ io ne prenda,
Amor, qualche vendetta
10.
Candida man qual neve a gli occhi offerse
la mia cara angioletta
per far strana vendetta
de l’ acceso mio coro
che, ingannata al candore,
sperando di temprar sue fiamme, foese
precipitoso corso.
O me misero, Amore,
che ne la neve sento ardor maggiore!

01. Caro amoroso neo (T.Tasso)
Caro amoroso neo
ch` illustri un si bel volto
col negro tuo fra ‘ l suo candor avvolto,
se per te stesso sei
tu pur macchia e difetto,
con qual’arte perfetto
poi rendi ‘ l colmo de le grazie in lei!
Ma se tale ha costei
In sua belta le mende,
qual poi saranno i fregi ond’ella splende?
(T.Tasso)
02.
Hai rotto e sciolto e splento a poco a poco
lo stral e il laccio e ‘ l foco
che punse, che lego, ch’arse ‘ l mio core.
O me beato, Amore,
che sento, o senza pena,
altro dardo, altra fiamma, altra catena.
03.
Se per lieve ferita
Onde te stessa offendi,
cosi dogliosa, o bella man, ti rendi,
mentre tue bianche nevi
rare inostrano e brevi
Convien pieta maggiore!
04.
In pui leggiardo velo
deh, qual dolcezza aspetto
d’ imaginato mio novo diletto!
Ma s’ avverra ch’ io moia
Di piacer e di gioia,
non ritardi la morte
si lieto fine e si felice sorte.

Questi leggiadri, odorosetti fiori
Fur gia Ninfe e Pastori
ed or de’ miei pensieri
19.
Son si belle le rose
ch` in voi Natura pose
come quelle che l` arte
nel vago sen ha sparte.
Non so, mirando poi,
se voi le rose o sian le rose voi.
20.
o possa in qualche ramo
di te cantando dire: io amo, io amo.

11.
О dolce mio martire,
cagion de ‘ l mio gioire,
e, se ben di me privo,
io piu beaio e piu felice vivo.
Quest` e ` l poter d`Amore,
che, rubbandomi ‘l cor, mi puo beare
in forme nuove e care.
12.
Tirsi morir volea
mirando gli occhi di colei ch’ adora;
14.
Mentre, mia stella, miri
il bel сeleste giri,
il ciel esser vorrei
perche tu rivolgessi
fiso ne gli occhi miei
le tue faville:
io vagheggiar potessi
mille bellezze tue con luci mille.
15.
Non mirar, non mirare
di questa bell` imago
l’ altere parti e rare.
Ahi, che di morir vago
l` immoto guardo gira!
Tu pur rimiri come
l` immoto guardo gira
e loquace silenzio ` l labbro spira.
O desir troppo ardito,

06. Mentre Madonna (T.Tasso)
Mentre Madonna il lasso fianco posa
dopo i suoi lieti e volontari errori,
al fiorito soggiorno i dolci umori
sussurrando predava ape ingegnosa
corse e sugger penso purpurea rosa.
Сhe piu ti resta s’ altri il mel n` elice?
08. Se da si nobil mano (T.Tasso)
Se da si nobil mano
debbon venir le fasce e le mie piaghe,
Amor, che non m` inpiaghe
il sen con mille colpi?
Ne fia che te n incolpi,
perche nulla ferita
sarebbe al cor se grave
come fora soave
de la man bella la cortese aita.

Salvator mundi Domine,
Qui nos salvasti hodie,
In hac nocte nos protege,
Et salva omni tempore.
Adesto nunc propitius,
Et parce supplicantibus;
Tu dele nostra crimina,
Tu tenebras illumina.
Ne mentem somnus opprimat,
Ne hostis nos surrepiat,
Nec ullis caro, petimus,
Commaculetur sordibus.
Te, reformator sensuum,
Votis precamur cordium,
Ut puri castis mentibus
Surgamus a cubilibus.
Deo Patri sit gloria,
Eiusque soli Filio,
Cum Spiritu Paraclito
Et nunc et in perpetuum.
Amen.

Media vita in morte sumus
Quem quaerimus adjutorem nisi te, Domine?
Qui pro peccatis nostris juste irasceris
Sancte Deus, Sancte fortis, Sancte et misericors Salvator, Amarae
morti ne tradas nos.
Nunc dimittis servum tuum, Domine, secundum verbum tuum in pace:
Quia viderunt oculi mei salutare tuum
saeculorum. Amen.

М. (Donald Michael Thomas,
[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D._M._Thomas]).
Requiem
No, not under a foreign heavenly-cope, and
Not canopied by foreign wings
I was with my people in those hours,
There where, unhappily, my people were.
Dedication
The mountains bow before this anguish,
The great river does not flow.
In mortal sadness the convicts languish;
The bolts stay frozen.
Prologue
In those years only the dead smiled,
Glad to be at rest:
And Leningrad city swayed like
A needless appendix to its prisons.
Stars of death stood
Above us, and innocent Russia
Writhed under bloodstained boots, and
Under the tyres of Black Marias.
They led you away...
They took you away at daybreak.
Half waking, as though at a wake, I followed.
In the dark chamber children were crying,
In the image-case, candlelight guttered.
At your lips, the chill of icon,
A deathly sweat at your brow.
I shall go creep to our walling wall,
Crawl to the Kremlin towers.
No, it is not I, it is else who is suffering.
I could not have borne it. And this thing, which has happened
Let them cover it with black cloths,
And take away the lanterns...
Night.
The Sentence
Then fell the word of stone on
My still existing, still heaving breast.
Never mind, I was not unprepared, and
Shall manage to adjust to it somehow.
Epilogue
I should like to call you all by name,
But they have lost the lists...
I have, woven fore them a great shroud
Out of the poor words I overheard them speak.
I remember them always and everywhere,
And if they shut my tormented mouth,
Through which a hundred million of my people cry,
Let them remember me also...

TOMORROW SHALL BE MY DANCING DAY
Tomorrow shall be my dancing day,
I would my true love did so chance
to see the legend of my play.
Ritornello
To call my true love to my dance,
Cantus Cancrizans
Sing, oh, my love, my love, my love,
This have I done for my true love.
Then was I born of a Virgin pure,
of her I took fleshly substance;
Thus was I knit to man`s nature,
Ritornello
To call my true love to my dance,
Cantus Cancrizans
Sing, oh, my love, my love, my love,
This have I done for my true love.
Canon
In a manger laid and wrapp`d I was,
So very poor, this was my chance,
Betwixt an ox and a silly poor ass,
Ritornello
To call my true love to my dance.
Canon
Then afterwards baptiz`d I was,
The Holy Ghost on me did glance,
My father`s voice heard from above,
Ritornello
To call my true love to my dance.
Canon
Into the desert I was led,
Where I fasted without substance;
The Devil bade me make stones my bread,
Ritornello
To have me break my true love`s dance.
Canon
The Jews on me they made great suit,
And with me made great variance;
Because they lov`d darkness rather than light,
Ritornello
To call my true love to my dance.
Canon
For thirty pence Judas me sold,
His covetousness for to advance;
Mark whom I kiss, the same do hold,
Ritornello
The same is he shall lead the dance.
Canon
Before Pilate the Jews me brought,
Where Barabbas had deliverance,
They scourg`d me and set me at nought,
Ritornello
Judg`d me to die to lead the dance.
Canon
Then on the cross hang`d I was,
Where a spear to my heart did glance,
There issu`d forth both water and blood,
Ritornello
To call my true love to my dance.
Canon
Then down to Hell I took my way
For my true love`s deliverance,
And rose again on the third day
Ritornello
Up to my true love and the dance.
Canon
Then up to Heaven I did ascend,
Where now I dwell in sure substance,
On the right hand of God,
that man
Ritornello
May come unto the gen`ral dance.

THE MAIDEN`S SONG (15 век)
The maidens came when I was in my mother`s bow`r;
I had all that I would.
The bailey beareth the bell away;
The lily, the rose, the rose I lay.
The silver is white, red is the gold;
The robes they lay in fold.
The bailey beareth the bell away;
The lily, the rose, the rose I lay.
And through the glass window shines the sun.
How should I love, and I so young?
The bailey beareth the bell away;
The lily, the rose, the rose I lay.

For to report it were now tedius:
We will therfor now sing no more
Of the games joyus.
Right mighty and famus
Elizabeth, our quen princis,
Prepotent and eke victorius,
Vertuos and bening,
Lett us pray all
To Christ Eternall,
Which is the hevenly King,
After ther liff grant them
A place eternally to sing. Amen.

Fire and fleet and candle-lighte,

When thou from hence away art past
To Whinny-muir thou com`st at last
If ever thou gavest hosen and shoon,
Sit thee down and put them on;

The whinnes sall prick thee to the bare bane.
From Whinny-muir when thou may`st pass,

07.
O come e gran martire
a celar suo desire
quando con pura fede
s’ ama chi non se ‘ l crede!
O mio soave ardore,
o dolce mio desire,
s’ ognun ama il suo core
e voi siete il cor mio,
allor fia che non v’ ami,
che viver piu non brami.
08.
Sento che nel partire
il cor giunge al morire,
ond’ io misero ognora, ogni momento
grido: morire mi sento!
Non sperando di fare a voi ritorno.
E cosi dico mille volte al giorno:
partir io non vorrei
se col parir accresco i dolori miei.
Che da me la difenda.
Giusto e ben ch’ io ne prenda,
Amor, qualche vendetta
10.
Candida man qual neve a gli occhi offerse
la mia cara angioletta
per far strana vendetta
de l’ acceso mio coro
che, ingannata al candore,
sperando di temprar sue fiamme, foese
precipitoso corso.
O me misero, Amore,
che ne la neve sento ardor maggiore!

Caro amoroso neo
ch` illustri un si bel volto
col negro tuo fra ‘ l suo candor avvolto,
se per te stesso sei
tu pur macchia e difetto,

Ma se tale ha costei
In sua belta le mende,
qual poi saranno i fregi ond’ella splende?
(T.Tasso)

Hai rotto e sciolto e splento a poco a poco
lo stral e il laccio e ‘ l foco
che punse, che lego, ch’arse ‘ l mio core.
O me beato, Amore,
che sento, o senza pena,
altro dardo, altra fiamma, altra catena.
03.
Se per lieve ferita
Onde te stessa offendi,
cosi dogliosa, o bella man, ti rendi,
mentre tue bianche nevi
rare inostrano e brevi
Convien pieta maggiore!
04.
In pui leggiardo velo
deh, qual dolcezza aspetto
d’ imaginato mio novo diletto!
Ma s’ avverra ch’ io moia
Di piacer e di gioia,
non ritardi la morte
si lieto fine e si felice sorte.

Questi leggiadri, odorosetti fiori
Fur gia Ninfe e Pastori
ed or de’ miei pensieri

Non so, mirando poi,

Salvator mundi Domine,
Qui nos salvasti hodie,
In hac nocte nos protege,
Et salva omni tempore.
Adesto nunc propitius,
Et parce supplicantibus;
Tu dele nostra crimina,
Tu tenebras illumina.
Ne mentem somnus opprimat,
Ne hostis nos surrepiat,
Nec ullis caro, petimus,
Commaculetur sordibus.
Te, reformator sensuum,
Votis precamur cordium,
Ut puri castis mentibus
Surgamus a cubilibus.

Cum Spiritu Paraclito
Et nunc et in perpetuum.
Amen.

Quem quaerimus adjutorem nisi te, Domine?
Qui pro peccatis nostris juste irasceris
Sancte Deus, Sancte fortis, Sancte et misericors Salvator, Amarae
morti ne tradas nos.
Nunc dimittis servum tuum, Domine, secundum verbum tuum in pace:
Quia viderunt oculi mei salutare tuum
saeculorum. Amen.

М. (Donald Michael Thomas,
[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D._M._Thomas]).
Requiem
No, not under a foreign heavenly-cope, and
Not canopied by foreign wings
I was with my people in those hours,
There where, unhappily, my people were.
Dedication
The mountains bow before this anguish,
The great river does not flow.
In mortal sadness the convicts languish;
The bolts stay frozen.
Prologue
In those years only the dead smiled,
Glad to be at rest:
And Leningrad city swayed like
A needless appendix to its prisons.
Stars of death stood
Above us, and innocent Russia
Writhed under bloodstained boots, and
Under the tyres of Black Marias.
They led you away...
They took you away at daybreak.
Half waking, as though at a wake, I followed.
In the dark chamber children were crying,
In the image-case, candlelight guttered.
At your lips, the chill of icon,
A deathly sweat at your brow.
I shall go creep to our walling wall,
Crawl to the Kremlin towers.
No, it is not I, it is else who is suffering.
I could not have borne it. And this thing, which has happened
Let them cover it with black cloths,
And take away the lanterns...
Night.
The Sentence
Then fell the word of stone on
My still existing, still heaving breast.
Never mind, I was not unprepared, and
Shall manage to adjust to it somehow.
Epilogue
I should like to call you all by name,
But they have lost the lists...
I have, woven fore them a great shroud
Out of the poor words I overheard them speak.
I remember them always and everywhere,
And if they shut my tormented mouth,
Through which a hundred million of my people cry,
Let them remember me also...

Tomorrow shall be my dancing day,
I would my true love did so chance
to see the legend of my play.
Ritornello
To call my true love to my dance,
Cantus Cancrizans
Sing, oh, my love, my love, my love,
This have I done for my true love.
Then was I born of a Virgin pure,
of her I took fleshly substance;
Thus was I knit to man`s nature,
Ritornello
To call my true love to my dance,
Cantus Cancrizans
Sing, oh, my love, my love, my love,
This have I done for my true love.
Canon
In a manger laid and wrapp`d I was,
So very poor, this was my chance,
Betwixt an ox and a silly poor ass,
Ritornello
To call my true love to my dance.
Canon
Then afterwards baptiz`d I was,
The Holy Ghost on me did glance,
My father`s voice heard from above,
Ritornello
To call my true love to my dance.
Canon
Into the desert I was led,
Where I fasted without substance;
The Devil bade me make stones my bread,
Ritornello
To have me break my true love`s dance.
Canon
The Jews on me they made great suit,
And with me made great variance;
Because they lov`d darkness rather than light,
Ritornello
To call my true love to my dance.
Canon
For thirty pence Judas me sold,
His covetousness for to advance;
Mark whom I kiss, the same do hold,
Ritornello
The same is he shall lead the dance.
Canon
Before Pilate the Jews me brought,
Where Barabbas had deliverance,
They scourg`d me and set me at nought,
Ritornello
Judg`d me to die to lead the dance.
Canon
Then on the cross hang`d I was,
Where a spear to my heart did glance,
There issu`d forth both water and blood,
Ritornello
To call my true love to my dance.
Canon
Then down to Hell I took my way
For my true love`s deliverance,
And rose again on the third day
Ritornello
Up to my true love and the dance.
Canon
Then up to Heaven I did ascend,
Where now I dwell in sure substance,
On the right hand of God,
that man
Ritornello
May come unto the gen`ral dance.

The maidens came when I was in my mother`s bow`r;
I had all that I would.
The bailey beareth the bell away;
The lily, the rose, the rose I lay.
The silver is white, red is the gold;
The robes they lay in fold.
The bailey beareth the bell away;
The lily, the rose, the rose I lay.
And through the glass window shines the sun.
How should I love, and I so young?
The bailey beareth the bell away;
The lily, the rose, the rose I lay.
